Thank you to all the Grandparents who joined us for GRANDPARENT DAY this year. This special day acknowledges the hard work, commitment, faith and love that grandparents sow into the lives of their grandchildren, often bringing and collecting from school, helping with homework, attending outings and even helping in classrooms
We were concerned that a date in August might be cold and wet but instead we were blessed with sunshine and unseasonal warmth which was perfect!
The students were very excited and proud to welcome their Grandparent into their classroom for a variety of activities: hand painting and printing on a giant tree, making a cut out person to add to the grandparent chain, playing board games, visiting a photo booth, origami craft and story reading to name some of the activities. Some grandparents were ‘adopted’ by students who did not have a grandparent visit, and the children were blessed by the attention grandparents gave to them. Although it was a busy and active morning there was a general feeling of calmness which we attribute to presence of Grandparents. THANK YOU!
After visiting classrooms for an hour, our guests were treated to a lovely morning tea of scones, jam and cream and savouries. The ladies from the Parent group (EPG) provided this delicious treat and were on hand to make tea and coffee. Yes, the line for tea and coffee was a little long (next year we will plan to make for faster service!) but everyone was patient and appreciated the hard work of the EPG ladies.
Following morning tea, Mrs Jane Gabrielson was Master of Ceremonies as each class presented items of song and dance for the Grandparents and our guests were invited to join in a dance at the end. There were special gift prizes for the oldest grandparent, the one with the most grandchildren (17!) and the one who spoke the most languages (4!).
THANK YOU FOR THE PART YOU PLAYED IN MAKING GRANDPARENT DAY SPECIAL.
