Once again, the Year 6 Camp was a wonderful time away from ‘normal’ school. Thankfully, the 43 students that attended all made it through Survivor 19: The Towering Tundra. Living in and facing challenges in this oversized shrubbery is a tough mission to accomplish, with 12 energy-sapping, minding-boggling tasks to survive. Treasure was found, de camp was toured, 1D was saved, gold was discovered, a virus was cured, a maze was solved and some even made it to … the red tarp! These physical challenges were complemented by a series of spiritual challenges, delivered creatively and soundly by Mr Dougal Steven.
When the campers weren’t being challenged, they were either eating (from a 5-star menu), socialising, ‘dorming’, rumbling, traveling or just inventing ways to have fun without technology. Yes, it can be done!
A special thank you to the whole camp-leaders team. Every year they not only help make camp happen, but they bring their own special gifts, abilities and talents to add a flavour to camp that is truly unique. The school deeply appreciates your time, energy, passion and service. We also thank everyone who prayed for us while we were away. We don’t take it for granted.
Now, because ‘What happens at camp stays at camp’ there are only 7 student photos, just to prove they were there. The other snapshots are just things that symbolise camp and the experience it was. If we give too much away, there may not be anything left to look forward to in 2019 for next year’s class.
Year 6 Camp- From the Boy’s Perspective by Ben and Nathan
Camp is one of the biggest highlights of Year 6. It is something that all year sixes look forward to. This recount will inform you all about our amazing experience.
Excitement was brewing as all the year sixes started to arrive at school. Everyone was ready to head down south to the campsite. The drive was long and tedious, but it was worth it in the end. When we arrived at the campsite, we all unpacked and set up for the week, putting all of our belongings into our dorms.
The dorms, as expected, were not that clean after the first night. We all know that boys are good at a lot of things… but keeping a room tidy is not one of them. If you were to walk into Challenger (one of the boy’s dorms) you would most-likely experience something you would regret forever. An explosion of gas wafting right into your face.
The next morning, we started prayer time at the beach. It was relaxing to sink our feet into the warm sand while listening to the waves crash against the shore. We prayed for forgiveness and repented for all our sins.
The food was delicious. We all enjoyed filing into the dining hall and seating ourselves only to get served wonderful feats of culinary art. Chicken wraps, warm pancakes, strawberry cheesecake and sticky date pudding. This is just a few of the gob-smacking foods we enjoyed.
We all enjoyed hearing the squealing girls as they got scared or lost their shoes due to the boys. Although, it wasn’t that funny when one girl started raging and attracted the teacher’s attention. This caused prank wars. From tying each other’s shoes onto the clothes line to jump scaring the girls from behind the trees.
Leaving camp, while it was sad, we all secretly wanted to go back to our home. After one night at our house we then went back to normal. Sibling rivalries, school and more school. This was our amazing experience!
Year 6 Camp – From the Girls Perspective By Lovely and Esther
The year six camp was and still is the highlight of the year for most of us. We all secretly missed home at the start but were all devastated to leave by the end of the week. Building new friendships and really getting to know the people we’ve been stuck in the same class for the past year was somewhat of a new experience for most, if not all of us. All the team games, challenges and a few other surprises along the way really brought out who we were as people.
Some of us got sick, some of us got eaten alive by mosquitoes and some of us got both sick and eaten alive. Some of us even got pranked. The biggest prank I reckon occurred on Girls Night. I’m not sure if previous year six girl campers had Girls Night but this year, we did. We had it to celebrate the 12th birthdays of Lovely Mang and Caitlyn Eddy. There were lollies, chips, warheads, marshmallow and every other mouth-watering snacks you could possibly imagine.
It was just then when we heard 4-5 loud knocks coming from one of the windows. The leaders in the dorm told us to ignore it and that it was probably just the boys trying to pull a prank on us. And… they were right. Me being the nosy person I am, opened the curtain and just as I got half-way, EVERYONE in the dorm let out a scream. The boys had planted a mask they bought from Dunsborough and stuck it onto the window. After that happened, we all ate the last little bits of food left and all headed back into our dorms to get ready for bed.
Camp was a great experience for us all, and we made lots of memories. Thanks to the teachers and helpers who made this all possible for us.
