On Tuesday the 20th of August, the Year 9 HASS students visited the Supreme and District Courts in Perth. This trip was part of the year 9 civics and citizenship course which focuses on Australia’s justice system. On this excursion, the students had the opportunity to watch a court session in action and take part in a mock trial in the Old Court House. Students were able to apply and develop their knowledge of the principles of justice and the proceedings of a trial during the court sessions in the district court. Many students were surprised by the investigative style of questioning carried out by the prosecutors and defense attorneys! During their visit to the Old Court House, students were able to apply their dramatic flair in a mock trial. It was clear that all students involved enjoyed wearing the robes and wigs! Overall, the students had a great day observing and getting involved in the justice system.
